The mission of Building Family Foundation ( Fondasyon Bati Fanmy) is to give a better future to Haiti by raising the literacy rate among the underprivileged children. Building resilient young men, young women, and families, through skill-development programs to be able to succeed in the face of hardship, fight extreme poverty and ensure a prosperous future for themselves and their communities.
Establishing community health care clinics, to give people access to basic healthcare. No One Stays Hungry Program to feed the needy. Giving farmers technical support, and training to develop sustainable Agriculture. Giving Clean Water to communities to prevent Cholera and other diseases.
Hardship threatens hope and dignity. Strong families with marketable skills, backed by adequate community programs, are the keys to preserving hope and eradicating poverty. Building Family Foundation gets the big picture. Through alliances with grassroots communities and organizations to create sustainable skills development, and participate in programs that provide those resources concurrently with BFF training programs. Help FBF delivers, through its training programs and its alliance programs, the components of the whole package.
BFF vision, is to create a better and sustainable future by working in alliance with other organizations to increase the literacy rates in the country, to giving every child the opportunity to go to school, help them become productive members of the society to contribute to the economic development of the Country. We strive to enhance the lives of the youth and families by empowering them with diverse skills to fight extreme poverty and teach them how to create a supportive community.
Our story began in 2009 when FBF Founder and Executive Director Elsie Altara Bernier traveled to Haiti to visit some of the communities she has assisted since the age of 18. She discovered that the state of the Haitian people had worsened. “Serious and urgent work needed to be done, and fast” she said. Elsie is uniquely qualified to head the BFF for her long history of advocating for the poor and the importance of mass education. She was born in Port-au-Prince Haiti. In her youth and early adulthood Elsie led many community development initiatives such as; Women empowerment in Artibonite as President of Fanm Vannyan, Youth Association AJEPS, and farmers literacy programs. Having come to the US and obtained citizenship, she continues her advocacy and earned a BA in Psychology.
