OUR STORY
Our story began in 2009 when FBF Founder and Executive Director Elsie Altara Bernier traveled to Haiti to visit some of the communities she has assisted since the age of 18. She discovered that the state of the Haitian people had worsened. “Serious and urgent work needed to be done, and fast” she said. Elsie is uniquely qualified to head the BFF for her long history of advocating for the poor and the importance of mass education. She was born in Port-au-Prince Haiti. In her youth and early adulthood Elsie led many community development initiatives such as; Women empowerment in Artibonite as President of Fanm Vannyan, Youth Association AJEPS, and farmers literacy programs. Having come to the US and obtained citizenship, she continues her advocacy and earned a BA in Psychology.
